ABB Opens $40M Manufacturing Hub to Advance U.S. Grid Engineering Solutions

Doubling production capacity, enhancing grid reliability, and powering America’s electrification journey forward.

ABB further expanded its U.S. manufacturing base by announcing a new $40 million Albuquerque, New Mexico facility. The 90,000-square-foot plant is a significant step toward strengthening ABB's hold on electrification and grid technology markets, more specifically as it relates to advanced engineering and home-based production.

The production of high-demand products like Elastimold cable accessories and Fisher Pierce faulted circuit indicators, the new facility enables ABB's position in the ability to offer core grid infrastructure solutions. Such products are critically needed in improving the resiliency and reliability of electric grids in particular against rising demands for electricity as well as weather disruptions.

By launching additional manufacturing capacity for several of its most critical products, ABB is doubling its bets on helping America modernize its electric grid.  By situating the plant near its utility customers, delivery times are shortened and quality is improved, a move in the direction of industry trends toward domestic manufacturing and local supply bases.

Not only does the new center achieve technical objectives, but it also drives economic and workforce development in the region. More than 150 permanent engineering, manufacturing operations, and technical support jobs are being established, complementing the region's emerging clean energy and advanced manufacturing economies.

As part of its North America strategy, ABB has spent more than $125 million on manufacturing enhancements during the last five years. This Albuquerque expansion is an expression of its ongoing commitment to injecting automation, precision engineering, and sustainability into its business.

The factory is a statement of ABB's commitment to making sure grid technologies are built to address future challenges—reliability, efficiency, and innovation as its mantras.
