Sulzer joins the Spinnova ecosystem, improving sustainable fibre manufacturing and accelerating commercialization of eco-friendly textiles for global markets.
The Spinnova ecosystem gets strengthened through the inclusion of Sulzer, which is a leading Swiss engineering and manufacturing company known for innovative technologies for sustainable textile manufacturing. It is an important achievement that will make SPINNOVA® fibre more widely available in the textile materials industry. It will allow for faster commercialization of eco-cellulose fibres for use in clothes and interior textiles.
As part of this agreement, Sulzer’s engineers would help in the development of future technologies along the sustainable textiles manufacturing process chain, including the use of industrial pumps and mixers in cellulose fiber manufacturing. By combining industrial scaling knowledge with the patented fiber manufacturing technology of Spinnova, the partnership is seeking to make sustainable fiber manufacturing processes more cost-effective and market-ready. “Collaborating with Sulzer is beneficial for us in scaling Spinnova technology through our technology concept. By integrating the technology and engineering knowledge of Sulzer with our technology concept, we will be able to achieve industrialization faster,” explained Mikko Kautto, Head of Technology Concept and Partnerships at Spinnova.
Sulzer had contributed to the earlier projects of Spinnova related to the development of the sustainable fiber demonstration plant project Woodspin and provided assistance in developing plans and successfully setting up the production process. Furthermore, Sulzer had played a key role in improving the piloting environment for the high-throughput MFC fiber process by learning about flows in fiber suspension. Sulzer is a global expert in applications vital for basic infrastructures and processes. The company is also specialized in the e
fficient design of industrial systems, as well as in optimizing resources in manufacturing and circular economy solutions for textiles. As a progressive manufacturing company, Sulzer’s joining of forces with other companies in the consortium highlights its intention to create sustainable and resilient fiber chains.
The backing of Sulzer comes amid the rising trend within the industry towards eco-friendly manufacturing processes and circular materials engineering. According to Business Honor, this new partnership is an indication of viable decarbonization opportunities within the textile manufacturing sector.
