Following the discovery of contamination during packaging, Haleon is conducting a voluntary recall of Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels in the United States and Canada. The FDA provided the company with their notice of product recall about thousands of packages of Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels being distributed in The U.S. from April - May 2026. The contamination is due to a leak in the manufacturing process where diluted propylene glycol-based coolant was introduced into the product when it was being packaged. Four lot numbers affected by this recall include TL8K and YH9X, YH9Y and one lot number X78N in the 72-count package. The affected lots all have expiration dates of November 30 and were distributed on or near April 13.
Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels are an over the counter medication that relieves the symptoms of gas and bloating in the digestive system, most commonly used for immediate health relief from discomfort caused by gas in the gastrointestinal tract. This over-the-counter medication gets its name from its active ingredient gas that is found in the capsules and helps break up gas bubbles that develop in the GI tract leading to a reduction in the pressure and bloating, as well as all other gas-related symptoms. The Gas-X product also comes in an easily identifiable package color, being packaged with green, blue and grey bands colors.
Both Haleon and local health authorities have issued public notices advising the public that anyone consuming the affected Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels may experience gastrointestinal tract adverse reactions. The symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. To date, Haleon has said there have been no reported adverse events tied to this recall, indicating that either contamination has been minimal or that consumers have had limited exposure. Haleon is taking a comprehensive approach to address the problem by notifying its distributors and customers through several different avenues, including sending direct letters, email communications, and telephone calls. They are also taking active steps in arranging to return recalled products from the retail outlets and returning to consumers potentially affected product packages that may have been purchased.
Consumers who have either purchased or used Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels from the affected batch numbers are strongly urged to compare their receipts with codes. Because there have been reports of symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain or diarrhea following the ingestion of this product and anyone who believes they are experiencing symptoms and may relate that to consuming this product should contact their physician or healthcare provider for further evaluation.
Business Honor is of the view that Haleon's product recall reflects strengthened commitment to pharmaceutical manufacturing safety and consumer protection standards.
