Award-winning Memory Café opens to support individuals with memory loss and their caregivers during June awareness month.

A new Memory Café will be established on Monday, June 1, 2026, as a New Community Guideline for individuals living with dementia and Alzheimer's disease to connect with others who share similar experiences. This free event will occur on the first day of Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month and will serve as a community-gathering place for people experiencing memory loss, their caregivers, family members, and support team members, where they can spend quality time together as a group working towards creating their own positive experiences in mental health through shared time and enjoyment. The New Memory Café is located within a museum with interactive exhibits and allows the participants to have the opportunity to view the museum's exhibits at their own pace as well as to participate in positive activities.
The program centers on Classic Television and Comedy that are genres of entertainment that have the ability to trigger significant memories and foster social connections. Programming will consist of classic television such as I LOVE LUCY, THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW, THE VAN DYKE SHOW, and SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, and will also include segments featuring the legendary entertainers Johnny Carson, Carl Reiner, Betty White, Richard Pryor, Don Rickles, and The Smothers Brothers. "Laughter and shared memories are universal tools for building connections," said the Memory Café organizers. "By entertaining and celebrating entertainers of the past that have influenced generations, we can create bridges between individuals with memory loss and their families." This programme has been designed with a dual-focus to better meet the specific needs of both groups. For people with dementia and Alzheimer's, the carefully curated entertainment experiences provide cognitive engagement, emotional stimulation, and an opportunity to relive fond memories. The interactive museum exhibits give those taking part in these activities an opportunity to experience content at their own pace; thus, removing any pressure and providing a respectful and dignified experience.
Equally important is the care provided to those who support and care for others — caregivers and family members. The areas within the Memory Café have been designed as a "safe haven" for caregivers; a place for them to relax, decompress from their role while connecting to others who are experiencing similar challenges. The family member and caregivers of people with dementia and Alzheimer's often feel isolated and exhausted from providing continual care to their loved ones. Thus, the investment that this programme has made in providing respite and peer support has been recognized as critical to the sustainability of providing compassionate care.
The Memory Café programme has received substantial national recognition for its success. The Memory Café programme has received two Gold Anthem Awards in the categories of Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Engagement for the measurable impact that the Memory Café and related services have on people and families. As Alzheimer's disease continues to impact millions of people throughout the world, programmes such as the Memory Café indicate a paradigm shift in how communities can respond to people living with Alzheimer's and Dementia with dignity and compassion.
Business Honor is of the view that the Memory Café initiative represents a transformative approach to community-based memory loss support and caregiver wellness integration.
