The United Kingdom has offered £5 million and emergency responders to Nepal following devastating flash floods and landslides that have claimed hundreds of lives and left more than 1,000 people reported missing. British authorities have noted that about 33 British citizens are missing. The UK has sent rescue teams to assist the victims around the clock.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office of the UK stated that it is preparing humanitarian assistance following the appeal from Nepal, which needed help for food, shelter and health care. "It might take some time before a full assessment could be made due to the scale of the destruction caused," said officials.

The Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband has talked with Shisir Khanal, the foreign minister of Nepal, offering financial, search-and-rescue and other types of assistance.
