Bengaluru Water Cut: The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has announced scheduled emergency maintenance work that will disrupt water supply across multiple neighborhoods in the city on Thursday, July 16. The 12-hour maintenance operation, scheduled from 6 am to 6 pm, addresses critical infrastructure repairs necessary to maintain the city's water distribution network serving millions of residents.

According to a press release from BWSSB, the emergency repairs target a significant leakage issue identified on the Scour Valve of the 2700 mm diameter pipeline that forms part of the Cauvery Water Supply Stage IV, Phase II project.

Bengaluru's pipeline system is one of the main water infrastructure contributors that makes it possible to bring treated water from the Cauvery River to various locations across the city. The repair of leaks cannot wait since it means further degradation of the pipeline and possible losses of water in the distribution system.

As a maintenance process requires a complete shutdown of water pumping stations for a twelve-hour period, it allows the workers to access the pipeline safely, perform repairs of the scour valve and go through all the quality checks before the regular water supply is resumed. The timeframe of the maintenance process beginning at six in the morning and finishing at six in the evening was chosen in such a way as to minimize any inconveniences, but at the same time, to provide the workers with enough daylight for the completion of their technical tasks.

The water supply disruption will significantly impact over 30 neighborhoods across Bengaluru's various zones. Affected areas include Nandini Layout, Shrinivasapura, Jaimaruthi Nagar, Muneeshwaranagar, Narasimhaswamy Layout, Jnanajyoti Nagar, Sunkadakatte, parts of ITI Layout, Jnanaganga Nagar, Telecom Layout, Eeranna Palya, Kebbehalli, Narasapura, Chandan Layout, Revenue Layout, Chandrashekar Layout, Gidadakonehalli, Vinayaka Layout, Balaji Layout, Sonnenahalli, Sir M Visveswaraya Layout, Gangamma Layout, Mallasandra, Ramaiah Layout, Dasarahalli, Jalahalli, Chokkasandra, Peenya Industrial area, Kottigepalya, Laggere, Herohallo, and Rajagopalnagara.

Residents in these areas are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming water outage. BWSSB has suggested that residents fill containers, buckets, and tanks with enough water beforehand in order to satisfy basic needs for drinking, cooking, and other household purposes. The organization is advising that those in need of water do so before 6 am on Thursday. The emergency plumbing work indicates BWSSB's commitment to keeping essential water supplies operational and conducting timely maintenance work to prevent bigger water crisis. Although this scheduled disruption will give some inconvenience to the people, such preventive maintenance work will prevent more issues that are serious in the future.
