Ho Chi Minh City Launches Waste Management Services Digital MRF

- Sandra Kelembeth

New waste management services in Tân Mỹ Ward integrate digital tracking to enhance recycling and sustainability.

The digital Material Recovery Facility (MRF) was established by Ho Chi Minh City in Tân Mỹ Ward in April, 2026. This is a move that seeks to enhance the sorting-collecting-recycling cycle and encourage waste collection and recycling among the communities for sustainability, strengthening waste management services in the region.

The establishment of the MRF is an initiative from the project titled "Waste Separation at Source and Community-Based Plastic Recycling" by Unilever Vietnam, People’s Committee, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tân Mỹ Ward. It makes use of the Grac application, which tracks the volume, origin, and stages of the materials. This makes the materials available clean and traceable.

Chairwoman of the Tân Mỹ Ward People’s Committee, Nguyễn Thị Bé Ngoan, said:
"This project marks a step towards sustainable development and creating a modern Tân Mỹ Ward."

National Chairwoman of Unilever Vietnam, Nguyễn Thị Bích Vân, remarked:
“The MRF serves as a reminder of the teamwork between the government, industry, and the community in creating circular economy behavior and eco-conscious citizens.”

The digital MRF provides an innovative waste management approach that puts household waste sorting at the forefront of the process. Source separation guarantees cleaner recyclable materials and helps advance Việt Nam’s transition towards a circular economy system. This corresponds to the Politburo’s Resolution 57/NQ-TW on encouraging scientific innovation, technological development, and digital transformation.

Business Honor observes that the MRF project in Tân Mỹ Ward serves as a model that future digital MRFs in Việt Nam should follow. It is anticipated that continuous surveillance and community involvement will facilitate the spread of sustainable recycling practices.
