Delhi sees over 800 missing people in January 2026, mostly women and children, raising immediate safety concerns.
A substantial increase in the number of disappearances in the country’s capital has been recorded in the missing person’s report of the Delhi Police in 2026, this causes serious concern for public safety. More than 800 people have gone missing in Delhi between January 1 and January 15, which is 54 missing people daily. Of the 807 missing people, 298 are males, while 509 are females and girls, who comprise more than two-thirds of the total missing people. There are 616 adults and 191 children among the missing people. According to the report provided by the Delhi Police, 235 people have been found so far, while 572 people are still unaccounted for.
Children are especially vulnerable. According to data, 13 children in Delhi went missing per day during this time. With 169 minors between the ages of 12 and 18 reported missing, 138 females and 31 boys, teenagers are the most impacted. Only 29 girls and 19 boys have been found, which means that 71% of Delhi's missing youngsters have not been found. Younger kids are particularly at risk. Only three of the 13 missing youngsters in the 8–12 age range were located. Six children in the under-eight age group remain unaccounted for. These numbers highlight how urgent the Delhi problem involving the missing children is.
The largest number of cases is of adults. The police have managed to trace 181 out of 616 missing adults, but 435, including 272 women, are still missing. This is not the first time that such a situation has arisen. Delhi has seen 24,508 missing cases in 2025, with the highest number of missing women in a decade. More than 2.3 lakh people have been reported missing in a decade (2016-2026), and around 52,000 of them are still missing.
