ISRO sets ambitious goals with seven planned launches, including the historic Gaganyaan mission, by March 2026.
With an eye on the future of ISRO’s upcoming missions, it is expected that during 2026 there will be over twenty missions planned to launch by ISRO, one of which is likely to be the first uncrewed flight for the ISRO Gaganyaan mission, which is expected to take place in Early 2026. This mission will mark India's entry into the realm of human spaceflight for the first time and as an important technology demonstration with respect to the safe re-entry and retrieval of a crewed capsule, the humanoid robot Vyommitra is expected to be carried in the crewed capsule. The Union Minister for Space Affairs and Innovation, Jitendra Singh has called this project a pivotal moment for demonstrating the complete capability of an end-to-end mission utilizing an ISRO developed Human Rated Launch Vehicle (HRLV). The Gaganyaan launch date is scheduled for December 14, 2025.
This is a year of historic achievements for the Indian space industry. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) for the first time as an instrument developed by the Indian private sector and is planning to use the PSLV to place the Oceansat satellite into orbit. The Oceansat launch will be the first time a privately developed vehicle is used to accomplish this mission and will be located in the Pacific Ocean, which will move India into a new level of capability as it continues to advance the role of the Indian private sector in space for the ISRO launches 2026.
These missions will not only demonstrate the technical advancements achieved by India's space program but they also reflect India's aspirations for a more wide-ranging vision of future space exploration and a commitment to providing solutions to the world's challenges related to space. The Gaganyaan mission is an important step for ISRO as it puts India on a path towards becoming a global leader in space.
