Rimini Street will continue to support SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA till 2040, helping businesses avoid risky migrations and costs.
Software support provider Rimini Street announced that it will continue to serve SAP's ERP systems, covering the latest S/4HANA and the older ECC 6.0, till 2040. This greatly extends the period of time SAP expects to support these platforms. SAP will no longer offer major support for ECC 6.0 after 2027; additional support won't be offered until 2030.
SAP ECC 6.0 continues to be an important system for many large businesses all over the world. Many clients continue to use ECC 6.0 on their personal servers, in spite of SAP's support for businesses to move to its latest S/4HANA platform. Over 60% of SAP customers continue to use ECC 6.0, as reported by analysts like Gartner, and approximately 40% will keep using it for critical business operations by 2030.
Seth Ravin, CEO of Rimini Street, stated that leaving ECC is expensive and challenging. Ravin added, "ECC has more features and is more established than S/4HANA." Around ECC, many businesses have spent years developing complicated systems and procedures. ECC is directly connected to production lines and IoT devices that provide data to the system, and this is especially important for large manufacturers.
Many businesses are yet to complete the transfer because replacing ECC with S/4HANA includes a significant risk of disrupting critical company operations, such as manufacturing processes, stated Ravin. SAP users are getting more time to continue using their current systems without feeling compelled to switch, in accordance with this information from Rimini Street. This could save a lot of money and offer peace of mind. It also shows how difficult it is for businesses to make upgrades to their ERP systems and how crucial ECC 6.0 is in today's corporate setting.
