Planat GmbH Systematically Integrates AI into ERP System FEPA

Stuttgart-based provider prioritizes governance and data sovereignty as it embeds artificial intelligence into its ERP system for practical customer benefits.

Headquartered in Stuttgart, Planat GmbH is integrating AI into its ERP system (FEPA) according to a strong set of principles regarding governance, data sovereignty, and liability. According to Marco Bux (principal product manager and head of development), the company is focusing on delivering real-world benefits to customers in terms of usability, efficiency, and cost savings rather than pursuing technological trends. "We take a structured approach based on the user," says Bux, pointing out that precision, data quality, repeatability and process reliability will continue to be non-negotiable regardless of the use of AI.

FEPA is set to launch an AI-based assistant for its users in 2026, which will allow them to obtain answers to system-related questions. By doing so, the learning curve for new users will be significantly reduced. In addition to this function, the chatbot will be tested through a pilot program with selected customers and will reference only official FEPA documentation, thus eliminating the "hallucination" problem commonly found in public AI systems. As described by Bux, the FEPA assistant will "essentially be a digital manual with a chatbot placed on top of it," allowing users to access the full capabilities of the system more quickly.

In addition to this assistant, Planat has many other potential uses for AI within FEPA, such as providing text assistance and integrating workflows. The company is also working with Stuttgart Media University's 'Media and Business Psychology' program to develop the user interface design of FEPA. Future possibilities include AI-based business intelligence with voice control, though Bux makes clear: "We will only introduce AI functions that fully meet basic requirements for precision, repeatability, and process reliability."

Data sovereignty remains central to Planat's strategy. The company is investigating "AI on-premise" solutions for customers requiring local processing without cloud access. Bux emphasizes that customers determine which data can be entrusted to hyperscalers and which should remain on-premise. High-compliance companies will continue to find security at Planat.

Business Honor is of the view that Planat GmbH's structured AI integration into FEPA represents a strategic shift toward responsible, customer-centric ERP innovation.
