Royal HaskoningDHV becomes Haskoning, aiming for stronger global identity and easier brand recognition worldwide.
In an effort to increase identification and fortify its worldwide brand international engineering consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV has formally abbreviated its name to Haskoning. Years of feedback that the lengthy name was hard to remember and utilize, particularly for clients and partners worldwide led to the decision.
Established in 2012 as a result of the merger of Royal Haskoning and DHV, the Netherlands-based company has operations in more than 30 nations, including the UK. Haskoning, which employs over 6,000 people, provides advisory services for projects involving energy, water, infrastructure and climate adaptation.
The name change is part of the company’s efforts to grow internationally, particularly in areas like energy transition, digitization and climate resilience. CEO Marije Hulshof said that while the old name reflected the firm’s strong history, the new name is simpler and supports its vision for the future.
The business has retained its official Royal designation as a symbol of recognition for its significant contributions to Dutch industry and society, even though the word "Royal" has been removed from the name. According to Hulshof, the business will continue to use this distinction as a symbol of its basic principles of honesty, reliability, and excellence.
The simplified brand also draws on a long history of name changes. "Haskoning" itself began as a telegram abbreviation and was adopted officially in 1976. Similarly, DHV was formed after earlier Dutch firms with even longer names combined forces in the 20th century.
This rebrand is more than cosmetic — it's a strategic change to support Haskoning’s continued role as a leading engineering consultancy, ready to meet the demands of a fast-changing global market.
