The British and Israeli ministries responsible for innovation have launched a joint program to advance scientific collaboration in transformative technologies, with a funding pool of 9 million shekels (£1.8 million). This initiative marks the first joint research effort between Israel's Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology (MOST) and the UK's Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology (DSIT) The program is being managed by the British Council in Israel through the International Science Partnerships Fund and aims to support collaborative research between the two nations on key scientific priorities. Building on last year's Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in science and technology, the program will finance three-year research projects, with each project receiving up to £200,000 (approximately 950,000 shekels).
The research will center on quantum technologies, artificial intelligence for drug discovery, and food technology. The first call for proposals has been announced, inviting scientists from both countries to submit their applications by September 30 of this year. British Ambassador to Israel, Simon Walters, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating that it elevates the already strong relationship between the UK and Israel in science and technology. "This initiative offers a unique opportunity for leading scientists from both nations to collaborate on cutting-edge research," Walters said. He added that he is looking forward to seeing the scientific advances and growth that will certainly come from this collaboration.
The program signifies a significant step forward in strengthening the research communities of both countries and underscores their commitment to advancing technological innovation.
