The rebranding coincides with Deloitte folding its existing indigenous consulting division into Yamagigu
Following the purchase of a minority stake in PwC's Indigenous Consulting business last month, Deloitte rebranded it as Yamagigu. Co-founder Gavin Brown, a Wiradjuri man from central New South Wales, will continue to lead the newly named Yamagigu as CEO. Established in 2013, the consultancy is recognized as Australia’s largest First Nations advisory firm, and Brown will oversee a team of over 60 professionals.
Yamagigu will operate independently from Deloitte, with its own board and independent chair, while still benefiting from Deloitte’s resources and systems. The rebranding coincides with Deloitte folding its existing indigenous consulting division into Yamagigu. The new name, derived from a Wiradjuri term meaning “our purpose is to go with you,” reflects the partnership’s commitment to advancing First Nations communities. The name was developed with input from Wiradjuri Elders. Deloitte’s chief Adam Powick expressed enthusiasm for the new venture, highlighting the integration of market-leading Indigenous expertise with Deloitte’s professional services capabilities. Yamagigu will continue to serve government, private sector, and community clients, focusing on designing and implementing policies, programs, and services to enhance First Nations outcomes.
The rebranding follows PwC’s exit from public sector consulting due to a government tax scandal, which impacted the segment’s revenues. Joining Brown in leading Yamagigu are ex-Deloitte partner Joe Hedger, Bundjalung and Yorta Yorta man, and other former PwC Indigenous Consulting leaders, ensuring a strong leadership team for the new entity.
