The UK Animation industry is in focus this year at one of the premier Animation Festivals in the World, the Annecy Festival, through the pavilion created to build a platform for the establishment of genuine partnerships with international industry parties; as well as a celebration of the excellence of British Culture. Animation UK has created the UK Pavilion, in conjunction with funding support through the British Film Institute and the National Lottery through the ScreenUK Industry umbrella. And will operate as a Professional Hub for the animation industry in the UK, as well as providing opportunities for the animation community from around the world to engage with UK studios, producers, investors and international partners.

The scope of the UK Pavilion has already been evidenced through the number of meetings that have been pre-arranged between UK companies and Producers / Broadcasters / Distributors / Funders and Creative Partners from all over the global Animation Community. The UK Pavilion this year is concentrated on the practical creation of collaboration opportunities and commercial success, rather than the traditional method of simply building relationships through networking opportunities.

Aardman's Historic Milestone and Industry Recognition

The UK's presence at the Annecy Festival this year could not be timelier. Aardman Animations, one of the UK's most widely recognised Animation Studios has recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary and has done so in style. The studio's founders, Sir Peter Lord and Sir David Sproxton, have been honored with knighthoods in the King's Birthday Honors, a recognition that underscores the transformative impact of British animated films on the global creative industries. Both will visit the UK Pavilion alongside Oscar-winning director Nick Park, offering international delegates an unprecedented opportunity to engage with one of animation's most influential creative success stories. Kate O’Connor from Animation UK highlighted Annecy’s importance saying: “The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is the number one gathering of animators on a global scale. This year the UK has so much to celebrate,” noting also Aardman’s receiving the double-honor of recognition for both Sir David Sproxton and Sir Peter Lord, which is a milestone moment for all of Aardman and the entire UK animation industry.

Demonstrating UK Animation's Diverse Strengths

More than the Aardman celebration, the diversity of the programme reflects the strengths of the UK Animation Industry across numerous categories. The broad range of both British produced and co-produced on-screen content displays many styles and formats, from immersive storytelling through short films and commissioned works to feature films and special event programming. This proves that the UK Animation Industry is a world-class leader in storytelling and design excellence, as well as being recognised as a leader in technical innovation and as a source of international intellectual property.

Addressing Industry Challenges and Opportunities

The pavilion provides the perfect venue for bringing together industry representatives for in-depth discussion on many of the most pressing topics facing the industry today such as: co-production opportunities, financial and tax incentives, eligibility and certification requirements, export strategies, training and skills development, sustainable practices and strategies for growing business internationally. Attendees will have the chance to discover the UK support available to them, including AVEC certification and the UK Global Screen Fund, which provides access to tangible resources to help create partnerships that are more international.

Building a Collaborative Future

Animation UK's collaborative approach extends across the entire UK screen sector. The initiative is delivered in partnership with the BFI, British Film Commission, Creative Wales, Northern Ireland Screen, Film London, and the Department for Business and Trade, ensuring comprehensive representation of UK animation's regional strengths and capabilities. This coordinated effort reflects a broader strategic commitment to positioning British animation as the world's premier destination for creative partnership, technical excellence, and sustainable growth in the global animation industry.

Business Honor is of the view that Animation UK's pavilion strategy represents a transformative shift in British animation's international commercial expansion and partnership integration capabilities.
