EFM Animation Days 2026 presents animated films, workshops, and networking to support European animation and international co-productions.
The EFM Animation Days 2026, from February 12 to 14, part of Berlinale's Market Activities 2026, broaden the European Film Market’s focus on animation. Showcasing the current European animation landscape and opportunities for international co-production. This programming will include the presentation of 28 projects representing early stage animated feature films, which will include family-oriented animated features as well as other types of animation like arthouse and documentary. In addition to animating showcases from four regions (Canada, Central & Eastern Europe, Germany, and the UK) for purposes of co-producing, there will be an International Animation showcase available for global co-producing.
Another highlight of this programming will be the Annecy Animation Showcase at EFM, which is curated by the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa). Five animated works in progress are expected to premiere later in 2026 and will exemplify cutting-edge auteur animation, all with global co-producing potential.
In addition, there will be workshops and panels covering the production of animated documentaries in a precarious funding environment, as well as addressing strategies for distributing animated features theatrically throughout Europe and creating sustainable international co-production financing models. Hybrid animation production case studies will showcase production workflows from The Amazing Maurice 2 and The Last Whale Singer, with a focus on innovative real-time pipeline methods and majority co-production strategies.
Curated networking sessions and one-on-one meetings with animation professionals from Aardman, Red Kite Animation and BFI will provide understanding about animation development, financing and certification processes. That is aligned with the EFM's mission to strengthen the European animation ecosystem while supporting new talent.
