Leading sportswear brand commits to verified environmental tracking across military-focused Freedom collection this fall.
Under Armour has become an official member of the US Cotton Trust Protocol, which aims to improve sustainability through supply chain transparency and increased accountability. The sporting goods company will start using cotton from this protocol in its Freedom Graphic Tees collection from Fall onwards, as part of its sustainable sourcing strategy to serve soldiers, veterans, and other first responders.
This collaboration will provide Under Armour with verified data on various environmental metrics, such as water use, carbon emissions, soil quality indicators, and land use. Using this data, the company can measure its progress in six different areas of sustainability.
"Performance begins with our materials and where/how our cotton is produced. We are pleased to be working with the US Cotton Trust Protocol to improve our transparency within our supply chain," said Aaron Driggers, the director of sustainability at Under Armour.
US Cotton Trust Protocol president Dr. Gary Adams expressed appreciation for the collaboration: “Under Armour’s commitment to innovation and continual improvement is something that we respect. The US Cotton Trust Protocol’s evidence-based system is fully consistent with these principles.”
The US Cotton Trust Protocol is the world's first sustainable cotton fiber program to provide extensive, verifiable data on its success. Business Honor notes that, as a result of more than 1,500 grower members making meaningful strides since 2015, the program ensures that participating brands become sustainability trailblazers within the industry.
