Training youths with skills and knowledge to lead climate action for sustainability.
The Lagos State Government and Gracefield Island have partnered to sponsor EKO EnviroTalk's environmental sustainability summer bootcamp, which will train youths to become climate action leaders.
The EKO EnviroTalk-organized environmental sustainability summer bootcamp, which aims to enable young people to lead in addressing climate change, was formally launched this week. The event has been crafted for young people aged 13-25 and is packed with activities such as interactive workshops, field trips, and advocacy training.
Gracefield Island is the title sponsor, while Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and Centre for 21st Century Issues also partner with the programme. Lasisi Adedoyin, coordinator of the EKO EnviroTalk programme, explained that the bootcamp comes under the 2025 Young Leaders for Sustainable Environment Programme (YLSEP). According to him, the camp will equip the participants with skills, knowledge, and connections to transform their communities. Adedoyin also clarified that the programme is in line with some of the UN's most important Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15). "We think young people can make a difference. The bootcamp is all about creating a better future through learning and doing," he added.
Speaking for the Lagos State Ministry of Environment, Ilori Temitope emphasized the government's focus on climate training, environmental awareness, and youth empowerment within the T.H.E.M.E.S+ agenda. Also in attendance, Gracefield Island representative Oreoluwa Babajide called on the participants to stand firm in guarding the environment. Gbemisola Akosa, Centre for 21st Century Issues CEO, also praised the youth for taking up the mantle of becoming future sustainability leaders.
The event seeks to groom a new batch of green champions, poised to defend Lagos and the world.
