DGCA reviews safety, delays and compliance standards across Air India and Air India Express.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India's aviation regulator has recently held a virtual conference with the top executives of Air India and Air India Express. In the middle of growing operational concerns and public outrage over the fatal crash of flight AI171 the meeting's main goal was to make sure ongoing safety and regulatory compliance.
Officials from the DGCA examined the airlines' recent flight delays, maintenance issues and passenger communication strategies. The need for improved coordination between ground crew, operations and engineering was highlighted by the regulator. Additionally, airlines were urged to keep a sufficient supply of spare parts on hand to prevent passenger delays caused by technological issues.
The fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner’s operated by Air India was one important topic of attention. The DGCA verified that the aircraft complied with current safety standards and that no significant safety problems were discovered after thorough examinations.
As of June 17, 2025, 24 out of 33 Dreamliner’s had cleared checks with the rest scheduled for completion shortly. Additionally the DGCA reminded both airlines of their obligations under India's Civil Aviation Requirements, particularly with regard to promptly informing passengers of any interruptions. This involves alerting passengers to any delays or detours brought on by things like limits on foreign airspace.
Given that there are more than 1,000 flights between the two carriers every day the DGCA placed a big focus on it and will keep a careful eye on their performance. The agency confirmed its dedication to strong usage of aviation standards and passenger safety. In a period of increased scrutiny, this development proves the growing importance on responsibility and compliance in India's aviation industry.
