Building security into every product to tackle rising cyber threats and data risks.
Dell President and Chief Security Officer (CSO) John Scimone revealed the company's new cybersecurity strategy at the Dell Technologies World convention in Las Vegas. He focused on how Dell is protecting its customers and infrastructure in the quickly changing digital landscape.
Scimone said that Dell's strategy has three components: safeguarding systems against emerging threats, making stronger security built into products, and making the security team more efficient in how it operates. He emphasized that security is not an option—it must be built into every product from the ground up.
One of the bigger issues he points to is the lack of trained cybersecurity professionals. Most companies struggle to find qualified individuals to defend against rising cyber threats. Scimone feels that more effective tools and streamlined technology can improve things.
Additionally, he discussed how Dell is improving its data security and protection features. Features like Dell's "cyber vault" provide extra security for important data, especially against ransomware attacks. Fast system recovery is one of the additional features designed to help users get back up and running as soon as a problem occurs.
Scimone discussed the necessity of securing private and commercial data as it moves across borders. For high-risk use cases, Dell is offering more secure on-premises solutions in a world where privacy and data sovereignty are major concerns.
He also cautioned about the increasing danger of deepfakes, which make it difficult to identify fake photos or videos. He asserts that people need to develop the ability to distinguish between illusion and reality.
