Layoffs follow acquisition by HPE and ongoing efforts to streamline global operations.
Juniper Networks, an American technology firm that specializes in networking equipment and software, cut about 50 staff from its Amsterdam branch. The firings are in line with a broader global restructuring program as Juniper prepares itself for the impending takeover by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), according to sources within the company.
The impacted employees were said to have been notified during a virtual meeting conducted on Wednesday morning. The majority of the layoffs include personnel from Juniper's Technical Assistance Center in Amsterdam, including teams that handle both basic and advanced customer support.
Juniper has not yet made official the number of staff affected or if the Amsterdam support center will be shut down. In an answer to the NL Times, a company representative stated, "We continually work to optimize the quality of support services and related costs we provide to our customers around the world. This sometimes requires necessary adjustments in how we provide services."
These reductions come on the heels of a larger round of cuts in 2024, when Juniper cut its worldwide staff by some 6 percent. Following that restructuring, the company's overall number of employees fell below 9,000. HPE, the target company buying Juniper, also made announcements of job cuts this year.
In 2024, Juniper reported a net income of $287.9 million, a 7.2 percent decline from the year before. Its $5.07 billion in revenue for the year was a 9% decrease from 2023.
According to Juniper's first-quarter 2025 report, the company had started a restructuring process that resulted in severance expenses of $10 million. The plan is expected to be largely done by the second half of 2025. The report further said that managing resources and restructuring the foundation for Juniper's future success.
