Amentum appoints cybersecurity veteran Max Shier as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer.
Amentum has appointed Max Shier as its newest Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) as part of a strategic effort to enhance the company's information security expertise. With over 29 years of expertise in national defense, cybersecurity strategy, and IT operations, Shier enters his new position with an established background of safeguarding sensitive systems and infrastructure within the public and private sectors.
Before coming to Amentum, Shier served as CISO at Optiv, overseeing enterprise security governance and advanced cybersecurity strategy for a complex technology environment. Previously, he was in leadership positions at Lockheed Martin, such as Cybersecurity Director and Senior Manager, where he played key roles to protect sensitive defense and aerospace technologies.
Shier's cybersecurity background is founded on significant operational experience, having spent nine years of active duty in U.S. Air Force Security Forces and more than a decade in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. His military career involved worldwide assignments in Germany, South Korea, and Colorado, and he has served in various important positions like Cybersecurity Test Manager, Flight Chief, and Cyber Security Assessor for the U.S. Army CIO/G-6.
In addition to his contributions to the defense industry, Shier has advised major organizations like Boeing, the Defense Security Service, and the Army Chief Information Officer, further broadening his knowledge of cybersecurity.
Shier has higher level qualifications in the field, Master of Science in Cyber Security from Colorado Technical University, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology, and Associate of Science in Criminal Justice.
His appointment by Amentum is a strong affirmation of building cybersecurity excellence as the organization expands its global defense and intelligence capabilities.
