Microsoft improves BYOD security with stronger AI protections and new detection capabilities for threats.
The agreement was authorized last summer by the European Commission and the Competition and Markets Authority of the United Kingdom in August 2024. The Commission looked into how the proposed deal would affect the supply of wireless access points, Ethernet campus switches, data center switches, and wireless local area network equipment on the European and worldwide markets.
The tech giant is delivering inline discovery and protection for consumer AI applications and expanding data security controls to personal or unmanaged devices. This trend occurs when businesses deal with the security implications of flexible work arrangements and increasingly frequent and complex cyber security threats.
Microsoft stated in their announcement that cyber security threats have become more frequent and sophisticated, making it harder to protect sensitive organizational data. Security experts increasingly prioritize protecting and guaranteeing compliance with AI usage since AI is now a part of everyday activities.
The potent combination of Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Intune, and Edge for Business forms the basis of these improvements, forming a complete safe enterprise browser solution for BYOD situations. Before allowing access to company resources, Intune conducts crucial device health checks to make sure that only devices that adhere to strict security guidelines can access private information.
With additional detections for new AI threats, Microsoft is also strengthening its AI security posture at the time of the announcement. New AI detections for OWASP-identified threats, like indirect prompt injection attacks and the exposing of sensitive data will be widely accessible in Microsoft Defender beginning in May 2025.
Security operations center analysts will be able to effectively safeguard and defend custom-built AI applications with the use of these capabilities. These improvements are especially opportune, according to industry analysts. While 60% of organizations have not yet put AI controls in place, they report a 57% increase in security issues linked to AI usage.
