ANZ Appoints Nuno Matos as CEO Ahead of Schedule, May 12

ANZ advances Nuno Matos’ CEO start date and announces new board appointments.

After Nuno Matos completed his duties in his present position more quickly than expected, Australia and New Zealand Bank (ANZ) stated that the start date for its new CEO has been moved ahead.

In addition to being named as an executive director to the boards of ANZ Group Holdings Limited and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Matos will now begin his new role on May 12 instead of July 3. Originally slated to leave on July 2, Shayne Elliott will remain CEO until May 11 and continue to assist with handovers until September 30. The new CEO has over 30 years of expertise in retail, commercial, and wholesale banking, most recently as HSBC's CEO of wealth and personal banking.

O’Sullivan expressed gratitude by stating, “Thanks to Shayne for leading a smooth handover as we begin the second half of our financial year.” Matos shared, “I’m excited to relocate to Melbourne and begin the next phase of ANZ’s evolution.”

Along with Alison Gerry, ANZ has announced that Jane Halton will be joining the ANZ Group and boards on May 9th, taking over as a director of the ANZ Group and other controlled entities today, March 31st.
Gerry has been a director of ANZ Bank New Zealand Limited since 2019 and has extensive experience in the infrastructure and financial services sectors. Early in her financial services career, she worked for HSBC and Macquarie Bank. More recently, she was a director at Kiwibank and NZX.

"On behalf of all shareholders, we are confident she will make a valuable contribution, given her extensive experience in financial services, especially in finance, risk, and trading," said O'Sullivan, who welcomed Alison to the group and bank boards.
