HMEL partners with Emerson and AVEVA to advance digital transformation in refinery and petrochemical operations.

HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) has moved one step closer towards digital transformation by inking two important memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with world automation leaders Emerson and AVEVA on the sidelines of India Energy Week 2025 held in New Delhi. The strategic collaborations are part of an effort to advance HMEL's adoption of leading-edge digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Advanced Analytics, and Real-Time Optimizers for enhancing process efficiency, safety, and sustainability in their refinery and petrochemical processes.

Prabh Das, MD & CEO of HMEL, underscored the company's focus on automation of processes as one of the pillars of its smart enterprise aspiration. He cited the collaborations with Emerson and AVEVA as being critical in furthering HMEL's digitalization journey. The partnership with AVEVA will be directed at AI-enabled and digital technologies aimed at enhancing refining and petrochemical process optimization. These projects will improve HMEL's capability to provide enhanced energy efficiency, sustainability, and optimal utilization of resources in its operations.

HMEL runs the integrated Guru Gobind Singh Refinery at Bathinda, Punjab, comprising a refinery for crude oil, multi-feed cracker, and Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) units. The company's emphasis on utilizing the latest technology has already helped it deliver exceptional operational performance and compliance with safety and environment norms.

The MoU with AVEVA will also create a Center of Excellence for analytics-led refinery transformation, with the long-term co-innovation and deepening of HMEL's leadership as a digital refinery operator. Besides, the MoU with Emerson will also lay emphasis on joint development of solutions to optimize the entire energy value chain, encompassing the Oils to Chemicals supply chain, through the use of real-time industrial data platforms.

Together, these collaborations represent a historic step toward HMEL's digitalization journey, setting the company up to be more sustainable, efficient, and technology-driven in the future.
