ChatGPT Gov enables U.S. agencies to use AI models securely, handling sensitive data with customized protocols.
The Microsoft-backed artificial intelligence research firm OpenAI, which created the well-known AI Chatbot ChatGPT, OpenAI, has launched a new scheme on Jan 28 2025 specifically for the use of the U.S. government. The new tool, called Dubbed ChatGPT Gov, is a personalized version of ChatGPT that allows government agencies the right to use OpenAI's frontier large language models (LLMs) while still utilizing internal safety protocols. As stated in OpenAI's statement, agencies will have the option to use their own hosting infrastructures and security frameworks while utilizing ChatGPT Gov to manage "non-public sensitive data."
In a news release, OpenAI said they think the U.S. government can greatly increase productivity and efficiency by applying artificial intelligence. They underlined how crucial AI is to stabilizing and advancing US leadership in the field worldwide. The group also emphasized their dedication to making their models available to support public sector initiatives that benefit society, such as those in the fields of national security, infrastructure, public health, energy, the environment, transportation, and consumer protection.
ChatGPT Gov is used by agencies for storing, exchanging, and uploading text and image assets within the government workspace. The flagship model from OpenAI, GPT-4o, "excels in text interpretation, summarization, coding, image interpretation, and mathematics." Within their government workspace, employees will be able to create and distribute custom GPTs (also known as generative pre-trained transformers or the big language model frameworks that enable generative AI). IT teams and CIOs (chief information officers) may manage users, groups, custom GPTs, single sign-on (SSO), and more using this administration console.
