Avangrid leads energy projects to meet rising data center demand, supporting AI growth and U.S. infrastructure.
Avangrid, Inc., a leading energy company within the Iberdrola Group, is taking a leadership role in meeting the growing energy demand fueled by the swift growth of data centers, which are critical to energize the AI revolution. In a report by the U.S. Department of Energy, growth in data center loads has quadrupled over the last ten years and is projected to double, or even triple once again, by 2028. Avangrid, boasting a healthy portfolio of energy projects, is poised to accommodate this growth.
The firm presently has 8 running projects backing data centers, producing more than 1,250 Megawatts (MW), with another 6 under development, or set to start, adding a further 800 MW of power capacity. Avangrid has a massive footprint in 24 U.S. states, with a pipeline of more than 25 gigawatts (GW) of upcoming energy projects, which will ensure a safe and sustainable energy supply for the nation's largest tech companies, including data centers essential to AI development.
Avangrid's CEO, Pedro Azagra, reiterated that their broad project slate is well positioned to deliver safe American energy and satisfy the projected growth in data center energy demand. Avangrid is building a strong pipeline of energy development that will serve not only future data center demands but also will deliver substantial local economic benefits as well as provide a boost for U.S. employment.
Aside from its present 10.5 GW installed energy capacity, Avangrid's future projects will continue to energize homes, offices, and schools, further contributing to the country's energy grid while meeting the increasing demand from the growing digital industry, specifically data centers for AI and other sophisticated technologies.
