Juniper Green Energy signs a landmark deal with First Solar to procure 1 GW of solar modules for projects in India.
A Gurgaon-based renewable energy firm, Juniper Green Energy has signed a major deal with US-based First Solar to purchase 1 gigawatt (GW) of solar modules for its future projects. The deal is one of the biggest solar module procurement deals from domestically produced modules in India. In itself, it reflects Juniper's efforts to take the country's renewable energy landscape a step further.
As part of this landmark agreement, First Solar is going to supply Juniper Green Energy with its high-efficiency Series 7 FT1 cadmium telluride (CdTe) thin-film photovoltaic (PV) modules within a period of two years. These solar modules are slated for deployment in Juniper's projects in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the next financial year. This partnership also aligns with Juniper's strategic focus on enhancing domestic content in its renewable energy projects and reducing reliance on foreign supply chains, especially from China.
Naresh Mansukhani, Juniper Green Energy, CEO said, "We are excited about this collaboration. The deal ensures a reliable supply of advance solar technology for our growing portfolio. The modules, made in India, will support Juniper's plans to contribute significantly to the country's renewable energy targets while fostering local manufacturing and reducing dependence on imported crystalline silicon modules."
Modules will be delivered by First Solar, an American company with manufacturing in Chennai. According to Chief Commercial Officer, Georges Antoun of First Solar, the alliance is of very great importance toward supporting India's renewable energy ambitions and securing for Juniper Green Energy a diverse and reliable source of supply chain.
Juniper Green Energy, a developer and operator of solar, wind, and hybrid power projects, remains India's renewable energy market leader. The deal marks a significant milestone for Juniper in its efforts to build sustainable energy solutions while giving the local solar
