RCU's inaugural Annual Sustainability Report reveals major advancements in AlUla’s environmental, cultural, and economic initiatives
In the first annual sustainability report, The Royal Commission for AlUla aims to share the progress made in achieving milestones set for environment, culture, social, and economic sustainability under Vision 2030. This baseline reporting enhances RCU's efforts toward a holistic regeneration of AlUla County in northwest Saudi Arabia through enhancing transparency and accountability in its initiatives.
Waleed Aldayel, Chief of Strategy and Digital at RCU, describes the report as "an important tool for sharing our sustainability journey and engaging stakeholders." Indeed, the report, outlining integrated sustainability efforts across four key pillars - cultural, social, economic, and environmental - points to strong and impressive progress in all of them.
Notable achievements include energizing 11 cultural assets, opening eight heritage sites, and perfecting protection plans for 25 major monuments. Socially, RCU granted 747 university scholarships and maintained a 90 percent satisfaction rate among residents. RCU initiatives have also brought in a significant reduction in carbon emission, as it has undertaken green mobility programs and commenced composting facilities. This report is the evidence of economic growth when more than 6,000 new tourism-related jobs are created.
As RCU follows carbon neutral, the organization supports the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The commission invites partnerships to continue developing and fine-tuning sustainability solutions by partnering with governmental and international organizations from around the world.
