Microsoft May Allow Users to Disable Jump Lists on Hover Following Feedback

Microsoft’s recent update for Windows 11, featuring the "show jump list on hover" function, has generated a range of responses from users. This new addition, included in Windows 11 Build 22635.3930 and currently available to Beta Channel testers, is set to be rolled out to all users soon.

The "show jump list on hover" feature aims to enhance user convenience by displaying the jump list when hovering over taskbar apps. Typically, jump lists appear when right-clicking on apps pinned to the taskbar, providing quick access to app-specific shortcuts and features. For example, in Chrome, the jump list allows users to open a recently visited website or a new incognito window.

While the concept is well-intentioned, it has not been universally welcomed. Critics argue that the feature is overly sensitive, with a hitbox that is too large, causing the jump list to appear unintentionally. This has led to calls for an option to disable the feature, a suggestion that has garnered significant support from users.

In response to the feedback, Microsoft has acknowledged the concerns and indicated that an option to turn off the "show jump list on hover" feature may be included in a future update. A Microsoft representative stated, “Thanks for taking the time to reach out about this – your feedback has been shared with the engineering team for consideration.”

As the feature moves from the Beta Channel to general availability, Microsoft’s responsiveness to user input underscores its commitment to refining the Windows 11 experience based on real-world usage and feedback.
