Symbotic acquires Veo Robotics, integrating FreeMove technology to advance collaborative robot safety and boost logistics automation.

Leading logistics automation company Symbotic Inc. made a calculated decision to strengthen its industrial automation capabilities by acquiring Veo Robotics, including its FreeMove technology. Symbotic is taking a significant step forward in its efforts to incorporate modern human-robot cooperation technology into its systems with this acquisition, which includes the majority of Veo Robotics' intellectual property and personnel.

3D time-of-flight sensors are used by Veo Robotics' FreeMove technology, which is well known for turning fast industrial robots into cooperative robots and ensuring safe interactions between humans and robots. In accordance with ISO safety regulations, the system recognizes persons inside a robot's work cell and modifies the robot's speed or stops it completely to ensure safety.

Following the acquisition, Veo Robotics’ key executives, including President Patrick Sobalvarro and VP of Engineering Scott Denenberg, have joined Symbotic, where they will lead the FreeMove division. This incorporation is expected to enhance Symbotic’s offerings, which already include modular warehouse automation systems used by major retailers like Walmart.

As it tackles implementation issues, Symbotic, which just reported major revenue increase to $492 million for Q3 2024, keeps expanding its automation solutions. The company believes that by using Veo Robotics' technology, it would improve its current position in the market for logistics automation and stimulate further advancements.
