This feature is part of Microsoft’s broader push to integrate AI into its products, making tools more intuitive and user-friendly
Microsoft Edge is enhancing its built-in PDF reader with new AI capabilities, designed to make documents more accessible and easier to understand. Currently available in the beta version of Edge, this feature leverages Microsoft’s Copilot AI to generate summaries of key points within PDF documents.
The new functionality is accessed through a button in the PDF reader’s menu, labeled "Generate smart keywords for this document with Copilot AI." When clicked, the AI analyzes the document, identifying important keywords and phrases. Users can then click on these keywords to receive AI-generated explanations of the terms or concepts in a side window, offering a more in-depth understanding of the content. This feature is part of Microsoft’s broader push to integrate AI into its products, making tools more intuitive and user-friendly. While the AI summarization is currently limited to the beta version of Edge, it highlights Microsoft’s commitment to evolving its browser with innovative technologies.
Users can download Edge's Beta Channel version from the Microsoft Edge Insider page in order to try out this feature. Beta versions are stable but preview-only, while more experimental features can be explored in the Dev or Canary versions. Importantly, these versions run separately from the main Edge installation, ensuring the primary browser remains unaffected. As Microsoft continues to refine its AI offerings, users can expect more advanced features to be rolled out across its platforms.
