In this latest phase, new roads will be built in eastern Ladakh along with significant developments in Arunachal Pradesh
India has rapidly intensified its border infrastructure development in the Ladakh region as part of the strategic India-China Border Project (ICBR). This move is aimed at tackling the security vulnerabilities exposed by China's vigorous expansion. The latest phase focuses on eastern Ladakh to improve road networks and enable swift movements of troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), resisting China's infrastructural advancements.
In collaboration with the Central Public Works Department and the National Projects Construction Corporation, the Border Roads Organization has initiated the third phase of the ICBR. In this latest phase, new roads will be built in eastern Ladakh along with significant developments in Arunachal Pradesh, where more than 70% of the new roads will be constructed. Defense analyst M.S. Prathibha highlighted the strategic importance of these projects in bridging gaps in logistics and troop movements. The increased pace of infrastructure development is due to the escalating tensions with China, including clashes in Galwan Valley and other border regions. According to experts, India needs to advance railway infrastructure to match China's modernized border facilities, even though recent projects like the Shinku La and Sela tunnels have improved connectivity.
Amid the heightening tension in the border, India’s accelerated efforts highlight a dedication to enhancing its defense capabilities and improving regional connectivity.
