In spite of regulatory obstacles, HIVE's new 100 MW hydroelectric data center in Paraguay plans to achieve 12 exahash the following year.

HIVE Digital Technologies Ltd. plans to build in Paraguay with the 100 megawatt (MW) hydroelectric energy provided from the Itaipu hydroelectric dam. As outlined in agreements signed on July 31, 2024, HIVE will be able to mine Bitcoin at a rate of 12.1 exahash per second (EH/s) globally by the end of the year 2024.

Aydin Kilic, HIVE's President and CEO, highlighted the investment's significance while pointing out that green energy from Paraguay's Itaipu dam is being used. However, because of recent changes to monetary policy, including a proposed 14% increase, the company's initial plans have been reduced from 250 MW to 100 MW. These changes are in response to worries about how these tariff increases may affect the long-term sustainability of investments.

HIVE intends to support local infrastructure and job creation with a strategic investment that is expected to yield significant U.S. dollar revenue over the course of three years—more than $100 million. HIVE is dedicated to supporting Paraguay's economic development and constructing essential electrical infrastructure, which is necessary for both industrial development and raising living standards, in spite of the regulatory obstacles.

Due to the unclear regulatory environment, numerous international Bitcoin mining companies have reevaluated their investments in Paraguay, which is reflected in the decision. HIVE's strategy, which is based on effective models from its operations in Sweden and Canada, places a focus on community involvement and sustainable investment.
