The American Academy of Ophthalmology and Research to Prevent Blindness Announce 2024 IRIS Registry Research Awards
In a significant boost to the field of vision care, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and Research to Prevent Blindness (RPB) have unveiled the 2024 recipients of the prestigious RPB / AAO Award for IRIS Registry Research. These new grants will empower researchers to delve into pivotal studies aimed at enhancing treatment and outcomes for various eye conditions.
The focus areas for this year's research include improving cataract surgery results in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis, refining treatment strategies for herpes keratitis, evaluating the efficacy of combination therapy for glaucoma, and optimizing follow-up care for individuals with proliferative diabetic retinopathy. By harnessing the power of the IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight), researchers will access a wealth of data to drive advancements in these critical areas.
Since its inception in 2018, the grant partnership between the Academy and RPB has sought to leverage the extensive data within the IRIS Registry to address urgent questions about eye diseases. With over 70 million patient records, the IRIS Registry stands as a cornerstone for researchers striving to develop better diagnostic and treatment approaches across diverse populations.

Looking ahead, the Academy and RPB plan to award four additional grants in 2025, continuing their commitment to advancing vision care through innovative research.
