Dynamic initiatives are materializing within the crypto sector as a response to the austere measures.
Crypto exchanges operating within the European Union have been mandated to comply with new regulations under the EU Traffic Regulation Directive by December 30, 2024. This landmark decision is aimed at fortifying financial transparency.
According to the mandate set out under Regulation (EU) 2023/1113, necessitate crypto asset service providers (CASPs) to enhance Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) measures. Under these guidelines, CASPs and their intermediaries must report detailed information on the transfer of cash and crypto assets. This includes collecting user data, identifying transaction purposes, and checking for potentially illegal transfer activities. A two-month grace period is granted by the European Banking Authority (EBA) to the firms to comply with the new regulations, failing which may lead to regulatory investigation. EBA expects long-term benefits in combating money laundering and terrorism financing while recognizing potential financial strain on CASPs.
Dynamic initiatives are materializing within the crypto sector as a response to the austere measures. For instance, to launch sustainability indicators in line with EU regulations, the Cardano Foundation has collaborated with the Crypto Carbon Ratings Institute. This strategic move underscores attempts towards compliance while embracing the network's energy-efficient protocols.
As the deadline approaches, crypto exchanges are gearing up for a series of regulatory changes aimed at strengthening financial integrity across the EU market.
