The plan will focus on increasing assembly and testing capabilities for both distribution and power transformers
In a strategic plan to expand their operations for power transformers and distribution transformers in India, Toshiba Transmission and Distribution Systems (TTDI), a unit of the Toshiba Group, has announced plans to increase its production capacity. TTDI aims to increase the production by 1.5 times compared to the previous fiscal year over a period of three years from FY24 to FY26.
The expansion plan has a budget of Rs. 500 crore (JPY 10 billion). The plan will focus on increasing assembly and testing capabilities for both distribution and power transformers. In particular, this development will meet the growing demand for 400 kV / 765 kV transformers in the Indian market and will increase exports to markets across the world. Following the plan to increase transformer production, TTDI also plans to set up another dedicated manufacturing unit for surge arresters by the first half of the financial year. These products are expected to be available in the market in the second half of the financial year. Hiroshi Furuta, Chairperson and Managing Director, TTDI, highlighted Toshiba's commitment to strengthening its business in India, stressing the country's vital role as a manufacturing and export hub for their Transmission & Distribution equipment. Furuta expressed confidence that the investment will not only increase operational efficiency but also support the company’s objectives for growth domestically and globally.
The expansion is in line with Toshiba’s strategy to strengthen its position in the T&D sector and to meet the requirements of conventional and renewable energy sources globally.
