Lula Launches Global Alliance Hunger

The alliance will be headquartered at the Food and Agriculture Organization until 2030 and will be jointly administered from Rome and Brasilia

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has announced an initiative aimed at tackling hunger and poverty issues across the world. He has announced the formation of a global alliance for the matter, and this marks a crucial moment in Brazil's presidency of the G20. Lula stated that hunger is a consequence of flawed political decisions and asked the global leaders to unite for addressing and overcoming the issue.

The alliance is planned to be formally established at the upcoming G20 summit in November, and the goal of the alliance is to mobilize resources and expertise to initiate anti-inequality and poverty programs across the world. The alliance will be headquartered at the Food and Agriculture Organization until 2030 and will be jointly administered from Rome and Brasilia, with Brazil taking care of half of its operational costs. Brazil, being a major exporter of agricultural produce, aims to utilize its prowess in the matter to lead global efforts to eradicate hunger. The goal of the alliance is to eradicate hunger by 2023; however, according to recent reports, 733 million people were suffering from hunger in 2023 and that poses a significant challenge.

This effort by Lula not only highlights Brazil’s dedication to global leadership but also underscores the necessity to address the issue immediately in the face of increasing global crises. With preparations underway for the G20 summit, Lula's alliance emerges as a symbol of hope in the conflict for a more equitable and hunger-free world.
