The External Affairs Minister underscores India's commitment to developing connections with Africa through broad engagements.
During Africa Day celebrations in Delhi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s strategic view of Africa as a crucial partner in the middle of the continent’s dynamic growth.
Jaishankar highlighted the close historical and modern connections between India and Africa, describing them as based on mutual respect and trust in each other. Additionally, India’s approach is to act as a natural alliance, taking advantage of cooperation in sectors like localization, research and production, and employment opportunities.
Jaishankar stated, "Africa is currently witnessing rapid transformations, evolving from its historical significance to a pivotal role in global affairs. As the world's most populous democracy and the fifth-largest economy, India views Africa as a critical partner.”
The Foreign Minister cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ten guiding principles to outline Africa’s commitment towards development. These principles include tackling climate change, improving agricultural practices, enhancing digital transformations, and investing in local capacities.
India's contribution to Africa’s education and capacity-building initiatives through various programs like the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) and scholarships for African students was highlighted in a recent interview.
Additionally, he added, "India's footprint in Africa includes 45 diplomatic missions and various educational institutions, reflecting our deep-rooted assurance of raising long-term partnerships."
The Minister concluded with reaffirmations to support Africa’s development, which includes growth and sustainability, along with the African Union's idea of a resilient and empowered continent.
