Security arrangements in Delhi have been increased for the BRICS meet, with around 30,000 personnel deployed at airports, hotels, and Bharat Mandapam, ahead of the visits of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin to India.

President Putin will arrive in India on September 11, and President Xi on September 12. Both presidents will first land at Palam Air Force Station and then go to hotels in Chanakyapuri.

Chinese and Russian security personnel have already reached the designated hotels. Hotel staff have also been vetted by the police, including in Delhi as well as in their respective home states. The delegations will be bringing some of their vehicles and convoy cars on flights.

The Delhi Police Special Cell will be responsible for Xi’s security. More police officers have been posted at Putin’s expected hotel. The overall security grid has been divided into sectors, with a senior police officer in charge of each sector.

Xi, Putin to Have Separate Hotel Arrangements

A number of foreign dignitaries attending the conference will reside in various hotels in New Delhi. Putin will be staying with some VIP dignitaries from Bangladesh, while Xi will stay with the president of Belarus.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will be staying in a different hotel. Some other dignitaries from Indonesia, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Brazil, and South Africa will also be residing in different hotels.

The traffic police have finalised the routes for the visiting dignitaries, and rehearsals have been held several times. The delegations from China and Russia are expected to have some of the biggest motorcades.

The visiting dignitaries are expected to arrive at Bharat Mandapam between 1.30 p.m. and 2.15 p.m. on Saturday, while their arrival time on Sunday will be between 8.50 a.m. and 9.25 a.m. Business Honor observes that Delhi’s BRICS summit preparations highlight the scale of security required for visiting international leaders.
