The White House has started new security upgrades at its North Portico while additional proposals aim to strengthen protection around the presidential complex.

The White House has initiated another phase of security upgrades at its iconic North Portico. Reports indicate that the White House security upgrades are being conducted in accordance with its efforts to modernize security structures while maintaining the look of its iconic presidential mansion. The White House security enhancements upgrades will go on till mid-September.
Large print tarps are currently covering the entrance of the North Portico, sho wing pictures of the columned and lamped structure of the White House to maintain the aesthetics of the historical site amidst the construction process. While the White House officials confirmed the fact that the upgrade is related to enhancing security, no details of the upgrades have been revealed due to security reasons.
This particular renovation comes after the maintenance work that started at the end of June for the stone columns that surround the White House entrance. It was stated by officials that these renovations were part of routine preservation efforts meant to preserve the architectural history of the White House while making sure that its structural stability is maintained.
In addition to the changes being made to the North Portico of the White House, the Trump Administration is also looking into more security enhancements around the White House complex. There is a proposal that has been forwarded to the Commission of Fine Arts about setting up permanent security features around Lafayette Park, as well as some parts of Pennsylvania Avenue.
According to the planners, the temporary barricades and bike racks no longer form part of any sustainable long-term solutions. The officials highlighted the fact that Lafayette Park is often used as a demonstration area and that the installation of the barriers would be useful in ensuring the safety of the public in large gatherings.
There are various other projects aimed at modernizing various sections of the White House compound. Among these is the construction of a granite landing pad for the Marine One helicopter on the south lawn, among other changes such as the installation of new flagpoles, the renovation of the Rose Garden, and presidential plaques on the West Wing colonnade. However, the administration’s plan of building the new White House ballroom is still facing legal actions from preservation organizations to protect the historic nature of the site.
The latest White House entrance security improvements reflect the administration's broader effort to strengthen security while balancing operational requirements with preservation of one of America's most recognizable government buildings.
