Pranit More's failure to challenge offensive audience remarks sparks widespread condemnation from Bollywood celebrities and industry professionals

A comedy show has ignited a large amount of controversy within India’s entertainment industry. After a comedian named Pranit More used derogatory comments made during live crowdwork, there was outrage. Many celebrities, including former Bigg Boss 19 contestant Rashami Desai, have spoken out against both Pranit and the member of the audience who made derogatory remarks. The Rs 370 biryani controversy comes from a viral clip of Pranit’s comedy performance in which an audience member named Himanshu made derogatory remarks about his own dating experience and mentioned he had spent Rs 370 on a date with a woman. He felt it unacceptable to have spent that amount of money without receiving anything in return. Furthermore, when Himanshu made these comments, rather than challenge Himanshu and his inappropriateness, Pranit laughed at Himanshu’s comments, which is what has drawn so much controversy from the entertainment community.
Rashami Desai addressed the situation by reposting content from creator Praful Garg on her Instagram Stories and made a statement calling out Pranit and Himanshu. Desai said in her statement that Pranit is not a professional comedian/artist and that the back-and-forth exchanges with Himanshu contained no originality of creativity of comedy whatsoever.
She characterized the interaction as merely normal conversation devoid of artistic merit and suggested that such performances undermine the credibility of legitimate artists in the comedy fraternity. "I'm not laughing. What you're doing is just talking to someone and has no original content," wrote Desai, who believes this is a reflection on the entertainment industry as a whole. She also called for the cancellation of Pranit's shows, as "having Pranit in the entertainment space puts serious artistry artists at risk of being trolled unnecessarily." This is not just Desai's issue; other celebrities - like Elvish Yadav and cricketer Malti Chahar - have spoken out against Pranit and the way he endorsed the audience member's inappropriate comments. All of these people coming together have put a lot of pressure on Pranit to do something about the situation.
Business Honor is of the view that Pranit More's public apology represents a critical reassessment of professional standards and accountability within India's stand-up comedy entertainment sector.
