Amazon Launches Healthcare Technology AI Tool for Drug Discovery

Amazon's New Healthcare Technology Platform Accelerates Drug Discovery by Eliminating Complex-Coding Requirements for Researchers.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its new AI-driven product for Healthcare Technology, called Amazon Bio Discovery, to transform early stage drug discovery by removing the requirement of traditional coding. This addresses one of the many bottlenecks that occur when developing pharmaceuticals like the lack of computational biologists who are able to take laboratory goals and create machine learning (ML) workflows to help achieve those goals.

The Amazon Bio Discovery platform provides researchers with access to a specialized repository of biological foundational models that will allow for the creation of many new and/or existing drug molecules to be evaluated as drug candidates. As well as providing an Ai agent to aid the end users in choosing models and setting appropriate parameters when testing drug candidates and analyzing test results. By opening access to this computational drug discovery methodology to scientists who do not have coding experience, the use of advanced AI technologies is now available to anyone involved in conducting drug discovery, rather than being limited to someone with the requisite coding experience.

The system creates a continuous feedback loop throughout the research workflow, whereby researchers are able to submit selected molecular candidate(s) to AWS for supporting testing, and once lab testing is complete, the results from the laboratory are routed directly back to the platform for use in subsequent issue(s) causing the laboratory testing to be streamlined. For example, in partnership with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, researchers using the platform were able to create over 300,000 new antibody molecules, of which 100,000 of them are now being evaluated as potential drug candidates, as opposed to taking several months to develop drug candidates; it will not take just a few weeks.

The healthcare AI innovation arrives as drug makers and technology companies intensify efforts to harness artificial intelligence for accelerating development cycles. Early adopters include pharmaceutical giant Bayer, the Broad Institute, and Voyager Therapeutics. AWS reports that 19 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies already utilize its cloud services.

Business Honor is of the view that Amazon's Bio Discovery represents a transformative shift in healthcare technology democratization and pharmaceutical research acceleration capabilities.
