How Adriana Muñoz Vergara Turned Regulatory Complexity Into a Growth Engine for Domu’s LATAM Expansion

Enterprise AI adoption in financial services often stalls before deployment begins because of regulatory, compliance, and procurement concerns. That dynamic was playing out in a São Paulo conference room, where a deal for Domu was at risk.

Adriana Muñoz Vergara didn't retreat. She reframed the conversation, walking the room through a compliance-grounded architecture that turned regulatory anxiety into an actionable, auditable path forward.

"As far as regulated industries are concerned, fast decisions work only based on trust,” says Muñoz Vergara.

“Companies will not be able to scale their enterprise technology by bypassing complexities. Instead, they should understand them, design based on them, and develop systems that enable responsible innovation. That is the way to transform a challenge into the ground for growth."

That ability to translate dense regulatory complexity into commercial motion defines her work as Chief Growth Officer at Domu, a Y Combinator S24 voice AI company specializing in loan servicing, debt collection, and customer service for regulated financial services.

In less than 12 months in the position, she has helped Domu achieve more than fivefold growth in annual recurring revenue, from $2 million to over $10 million. And has led negotiations with Fortune 500 companies, including Nubank, Teleperformance, and Alorica.

From Founding Team Operator to LATAM Trailblazer

At Domu, expansion required regulatory credibility across heavily regulated financial markets in Latin America. Expansion goes beyond sales execution for a company deploying voice AI agents in loan servicing, debt collection, and customer service.

That philosophy was immediately tested when Domu set its sights on Brazil, a market where regulatory complexity can make or break a foreign AI company. One of Muñoz Vergara's earliest assignments was establishing Domu's Brazilian subsidiary. Working across legal, operational, and commercial fronts, she navigated Brazil's LGPD privacy framework while helping financial institutions understand how AI systems should be evaluated under emerging governance standards.

Muñoz Vergara believes one of the biggest challenges in bringing AI into regulated industries is helping organizations rethink how they evaluate new technology: “The work is about proving that the system functions,” she says.

“As well as that, you need to build confidence around governance, transparency, and accountability. We have to help clients understand that AI adoption requires a different mindset. One where innovation and compliance move together rather than compete with each other."

After securing Domu's regulatory footing in Brazil, Muñoz Vergara turned to building the company's commercial foundation in Colombia:”‘My strategy included detailed financial models that compared AI-powered servicing and collections performance to that of human-agent teams,” she recalls.

“It provided tier-1 financial institutions with a measurable framework for evaluating adoption and return on investment.”

For Muñoz Vergara, these models helped shift the enterprise conversation from whether AI could work to how its performance could be measured against existing workflows.

Inside Domu, her principles are translated into a culture where employees contribute across commercial, legal, and operational functions. Muñoz Vergara introduced automated workflows with n8n, Windmill, and Slack to support that approach. Workflows that streamline vendor onboarding, candidate assessment, and client demonstrations.

Mastering Regulatory Complexity and Operational Wins

Compliance and operations became strategic advantages at Domu. The clearest example of regulatory complexity becoming a commercial win emerged during Domu's expansion in Brazil. As call volumes increased, the company discovered a costly telecom pricing problem. It was eroding profitability at an alarming rate, roughly $20,000 per day in certain areas, and, at certain points, nearly $7,000 per hour.

Tasked with finding a solution, Muñoz Vergara escalated directly to senior executives at telecom providers and began dissecting the regulatory framework governing billing practices.

What she uncovered was a Brazilian regulatory provision that permitted per-second billing for Domu’s category of engagement, rather than the 30-second rounding methodology then in use. Within days, pricing terms were renegotiated, and the billing structure was revised.

This restored margins, protected the client's economics, and demonstrated how regulatory fluency could directly influence enterprise profitability.

Muñoz Vergara recalls: "The issue demanded immediate action. By combining regulatory research with direct negotiations, we identified a billing structure that better reflected the actual service delivered and dramatically improved the economics."

She then applied that same execution speed to Domu's compliance expansion. Within roughly one month, the company grew from fewer than three state licenses to approximately 35, while simultaneously building enterprise compliance foundations for SOC 2, PCI DSS, ISO 27001, GDPR, and LGPD requirements.

Rather than presenting voice AI technologies powered by platforms such as ElevenLabs, VAPI, and Deepgram as black-box risks, Muñoz Vergara positioned them as auditable, policy-driven tools designed for regulated environments.

The impact of Muñoz Vergara's approach became visible through Domu's partnership with Alorica. She played a central role in shaping the commercial structure, contract design, and integration process, ensuring the AI deployment met the institution's regulatory and performance standards.

Alorica operates as a third-party service provider, handling customer interactions and back-office operations on behalf of major retail, telecommunications, healthcare, and financial organizations.

In the first 30 days after deploying the virtual loan-servicing agent "Rebecca," the system handled 2,565 inbound calls, resolved 48% of inquiries without human intervention, collected nearly $100,000 in payments, and achieved an 87% payment success rate. As deployments expanded, the platform processed more than 16,000 conversations and later achieved resolution rates exceeding 50% for AI-handled interactions.

Muñoz Vergara explains: "What makes AI different from traditional systems is the ability to experiment at a speed that was previously impossible. At Domu, we can test different voice experiences, interaction patterns, and approaches to understand what creates better outcomes for customers. That culture of experimentation helps us continuously improve the technology while making enterprise AI more effective in real-world environments." 

Jay King, President at Alorica Financial, which used the system says: "The early performance demonstrated that AI can effectively manage routine servicing interactions, allowing human teams to concentrate on situations that require deeper expertise and trust."

Domu’s ability to achieve operational outcomes comparable to traditional workflows has reinforced its approach to enterprise AI adoption.

Muñoz Vergara describes her role as building the infrastructure behind the growth of this approach: "My focus has always been helping companies move from early momentum into sustainable scale. Growth involves increasing revenue and building the systems, processes, and operational discipline that allow companies to expand without sacrificing quality, compliance, or customer trust."

The Commercial Playbook Driving Explosive Growth

Scaling from early traction to enterprise revenue rarely happens through aggressive selling alone. Muñoz Vergara built growth around reducing risk, building trust, and creating measurable outcomes for customers in regulated industries.

She personally led and supported complex contract negotiations with Fortune 500 and enterprise organizations, including Nubank, Chubb, Teleperformance, and Alorica.

Muñoz Vergara helped align commercial terms, compliance requirements, operational expectations, and long-term partnership structures. Those deals required alignment across procurement, compliance, legal, and operational stakeholders long before contracts could be signed.

She often challenges the conventional sales wisdom that prioritizes closing speed. The more nuanced question, in her view, is how to qualify more rigorously, earn trust more deeply, and advance deals deliberately, a mindset that separates top enterprise revenue teams.

That philosophy underpins her enterprise sales methodology at Domu. It focuses on minimizing buyer uncertainty through well-structured assessment, ROI modeling, and alignment with business objectives and compliance regulations.

This sales strategy includes precision-based prospecting, compliance-oriented discovery, building ROI models, and structured pilot projects that help enterprise customers assess AI adoption using quantitative criteria before deployment.

Muñoz Vergara clarifies: "Building from initial interest to consistent enterprise sales involves knowing both the business need and its compliance implications. The most compelling opportunities arise from having those discussions simultaneously."

An outstanding trait of this methodology is structured pilots. Instead of allowing a free flow of trials, Domu establishes baseline metrics, evaluation criteria, ROI objectives, and the next course of action before deployment begins. Likewise, negotiations are conducted following this disciplined approach, foreseeing the potential procurement pain points such as data residency, indemnity, governance, performance, and regulatory liability in advance.

This methodology reflects the current situation in the industry. Average win rates for B2B sales fell to about 20%, sales cycles are 38% longer than in 2021, and enterprise sales involve an average of 17+ stakeholders. Each year, Domu beats these figures.

Underneath, Muñoz Vergara developed playbooks, trackers, and automated processes. It allowed cutting back the number of manual processes and building an efficient enterprise sales engine to support the fast ARR growth.

One should not overlook the philosophy underlying her approach to customers. She draws a line between temporary happiness and success.

Muñoz Vergara says: "Clients benefit most when expectations are transparent. Sometimes the most valuable conversation is the one that openly addresses what is not working and how to improve it. Enterprise relationships are built through trust, not just positive outcomes.

She adds: "I believe the best partnerships come from being transparent, including when conversations are difficult. My goal is to keep clients happy in the short term and help them achieve meaningful success over time."

The combination of operational rigor, transparency, and a team-first culture rooted in high-leverage systems and ten-times ambition helped transform Domu’s growth strategy into a repeatable model for scaling enterprise AI in highly governed industries.

Muñoz Vergara's leadership philosophy revolves around humility, urgency, optimism, 10x thinking, and a builder mentality. Instead of restricting ownership by position, she inspires her team to take on commercial, legal, operational, and strategic issues as needed.

A native Spanish speaker and fluent in English and Catalan, Muñoz Vergara moves comfortably among cultures, investors, founders, regulators, and enterprise buyers across international markets.

Beyond her work at Domu, Muñoz Vergara has served as a judge in several competitions, including the Tech & Innovation Competition at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the Columbia Almaworks Startup Competition, and the DeepMind @ YC-Google AI Competition.

She has also mentored several founders and student teams developing AI and healthcare technologies.
