Salesforce CEO AI Hiring Shift Sparks Debate on Jobs as AI Coding Tools Replace Engineers

Company doubles down on AI-driven productivity and automation while strategically balancing human roles across sales, customer engagement, and business growth functions.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff claimed that the company didn’t recruit any engineers in the fiscal year 2026 and chose to rely on AI coding tools to fill the requirements. In an interview, Marc Benioff said, “We didn’t bring in any new engineers last year. We’re now leveraging artificial intelligence to help do a lot of the work. It’s changing the way we think about the workforce in the United States.”

Benioff claimed that AI agents are now helping the company in running its internal operations, such as software development and customer support. At the same time, the company increased the sales staff by almost 20 percent. The company’s financial performance is expected to be robust, with a revenue target of $46.2 billion and over $16 billion in cash flow, thanks to the growing portfolio of AI products such as Agentforce.

“AI systems are giving us the extra capacity that we need,” Benioff said, “but it’s also important to note that these systems are not replacing jobs; they’re actually augmenting jobs and making us more productive.” He said that AI agents are already working with customers, qualifying leads, and helping with revenue-generating activities throughout the company.

This move is part of a larger trend in the technology industry toward embracing AI systems in the company's operations. There are differing opinions about the effect of AI on the workforce, with some experts saying that it could replace jobs and others saying that it will actually augment human work. Studies show that while AI can help with the majority of technical tasks, the rate at which it is being implemented in real-world settings is slow, indicating a transition phase in the evolution of the workforce. Business Honor views Salesforce’s AI strategy as a shift positioning the company to scale efficiently and lead an AI-driven enterprise model while balancing human roles.
