Is Your Salesforce CRM Worth $600K? Curative Says No

Healthcare firm Curative drops Salesforce CRM contract worth $600,000 annually after building AI-powered custom alternative in two months.

  • Healthcare company cancels major Salesforce contract after developing custom CRM with AI assistance in two months

  • Curative plans to slash SaaS spending by 80 percent while dramatically increasing investment in AI tools

  • CEO cites cost savings and efficiency gains, dismissing enterprise software giants amid growing SaaSpocalypse concerns

A major health insurance company has intensified concerns about the viability of traditional enterprise software providers by announcing it successfully replaced a $600,000 annual SalesForce CRM contract with a custom-built customer relationship management system developed with artificial intelligence assistance in just two months.

Curative's CEO stated this in an episode of the podcast "20VC with Harry Stebbings" that came out this week endorsing the idea of "SaaSpocalypse," the thesis that says that AI coding technologies will deeply disturb the industry of software-as-a-service. In answer to the question about whether he felt this disruption-taking place, he replied "Yes." The move marks an important new phase in what can reportedly be called an existential threat to massive software companies. Curative intends to limit its SaaS expenditures spending by roughly 80% this year and invest that money in AI development instead. The steps of the company reflect the trend of companies abandoning subscription-based software in favor of AIs developed in-house.

The news has raised worries among investors who remember the first month of 2026 when investors saw big players like Salesforce, Asana, DocuSign, ServiceNow, Adobe, and Workday showing stock losses of 20 to 50% as they lost customers en masse because of the coming of AI-based alternatives.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has pushed back forcefully against these concerns, claiming he continues to see "incredible demand" for his company's products. He pointed out that Anthropic, the AI research company behind Claude, maintains its own Salesforce contract. A Salesforce spokesperson emphasized that 150,000 companies still use its platforms and highlighted that the company's tools are specifically designed to comply with complex healthcare regulations, including HIPAA requirements.

However, Curative's CEO revealed significant cost advantages driving his company's shift. The company developed an AI agent named Gwen for negotiating healthcare contracts. Previously, completing a single contract cost Curative between $1,500 and $2,000 using traditional methods. Gwen's average cost is approximately $70 per contract.

The CEO acknowledged that maintaining custom-built systems presents challenges, noting that maintenance represents "definitely one of the most challenging pieces" of the transition. He also disclosed that Curative's spending on Anthropic services had increased six fold monthly, from tens of thousands to millions of dollars monthly. Despite these rising AI costs, the CEO maintained that the economics remain favorable even if Anthropic increased prices by five times. He explained that Curative now plans to process ten times more contracts annually than previously possible, with ambitions to eventually handle twenty times the volume through AI automation.

Business Honor views that Curative's decision to replace enterprise Salesforce CRM with an AI-assisted custom solution represents a fundamental shift in how companies evaluate software procurement economics and long-term strategic value.
