CFMoto acquires Kalex, gaining top Moto2 chassis technology while improving plans for future MotoGP participation.
CFMoto has acquired 51% of Kalex Engineering, a leading chassis supplier in the Moto2 World Championship. This is a significant move in the racing world which makes CFMoto an official manufacturer in Moto2 and is a testament to their growing aspirations in international motorsport. Kalex Engineering has been highly successful since joining the Moto2 World Championship in 2010. It has claimed 13 of the last 16 riders’ world championships and has won the constructors’ championship every year since 2013 and up to 2025. In 2024, Ai Ogura claimed the rider’s championship with a different chassis, but Kalex claimed the constructors’ championship. In 2026, 20 of 28 Moto2 riders are using Kalex chassis, which is a testament to their success in the series.
As part of the purchase, Kalex Engineering founders Alex Baumgärtel and Klaus Hirsekorn retain 49% of the company and continue their management. New management includes Zhiyong Chen, an executive at CFMoto, and Sekira, who previously worked with KTM. This deal is significant to the Moto2 racing scene because CFMoto will have access to the best chassis technology at the top level.
