Digital visa reform to streamline Schengen travel and strengthen Europe’s global tourism competitiveness.

The new visa system will provide an entirely online application process, multiple-entry visas with extended validity, and harmonized procedures across the entire Schengen Area to make travel easier, faster, and more efficient.
As part of the EU visa strategy, the application process will be transformed into an optimized online platform to simplify the application process and reduce the processing time. According to reports, better coordination among Member States will ensure that the new rules are consistently applied at all Schengen Borders. A key element of the new visa strategy is the launch of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) in late 2026, which will allow visa-free nationals to apply for travel authorization online.
EU officials have clarified that the new visa policy aims to strike a balance between accessibility and security. “A modern, digital visa system is essential to Europe’s competitiveness and the security of our borders,” said an EU spokesperson. Tourism industry officials have also welcomed the new visa policy, saying that it will help to increase both business and leisure travel.
