New 43,000-square-foot West Jacksonville facility strengthens commercial construction growth and supports Mercedes-Benz Tourrider operations in the United States.
Daimler Coaches North America announced that it has opened its new facility, a $15.47 million, 43,000-square-foot headquarters in West Jacksonville, marking a significant milestone in Jacksonville's commercial construction projects. The new facility was officially unveiled on February 10, within a 10-month construction period along Pritchard Road near Interstate 295.
The two-story headquarters will be used as a predelivery and service facility for Mercedes-Benz Tourrider coaches produced in Turkey and transported through the Port of Brunswick, Ga. Jacksonville will be responsible for the predelivery vehicle work and installation of necessary equipment, such as ADA wheelchair lifts, mandated by the United States, prior to inspection. Daimler invested over $100 million to develop the US-specific Tourrider and establish its footprint.
“I just can't wait to move in with my team some two weeks from now,” said Dietrich Muller, CEO and President of Daimler Coaches North America. “We are now making our own footprint in the United States.” In announcing the project, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan referred to it as “a tribute to collaboration” due to a strong local job market and business environment.
The facility will provide office space, training areas, service facilities, and storage space. Daimler currently has 50 employees, but this figure is expected to rise as it targets selling 300 or more luxury motorcoaches to tour operators and transportation services every year.
This industrial development in Jacksonville follows the current growth trend in the expansion of manufacturing facilities in Florida, commercial real estate investments in Jacksonville, as well as the growth of the U.S. luxury motor coach industry. Future operational updates are expected as the company prepares to move into the facility.
