Visa’s GTPP lets Vietnamese SMEs pay South Korean suppliers faster, safer, and digitally with the help of commercial Visa cards.
Visa partnered with VPBank, Shinhan Bank Vietnam, and MB to create the Global Trade Payment Platform (GTPP), the market's first card-based solution for international trade payments. This allows Vietnamese importers to pay South Korean suppliers with Visa Commercial Cards. Resulting in a faster and easier payment for SMEs.
According to KOTRA and The Korea Times, in 2024 the trade between Vietnam and South Korea was $86.7 billion and by 2030 it is expected to increase to $150 billion. This highlights the importance of effective and safe international payment systems. SMEs are important drivers of Vietnam's economy, and the B2B payments are important for their success. According to Visa, Vietnam leads Asia-Pacific in B2B card adoption, with 8.3% of payment volumes completed by B2B card-accepting merchants using cards, showing an important ability for digital payment transformation.
GTPP allows businesses to use the VPBiz Visa Platinum Card, Shinhan Visa Corporate Card, and MB Visa Hi BIZ Card for quick, safe payment, electronic paperwork, and improved financial management. The website also connects Vietnamese buyers to a larger network of South Korean suppliers through KOTRA. According to Visa's national manager for Vietnam and Laos, Dung Dang, the platform symbolizes Visa's commitment to inclusive development, while KOTRA mentions the platform's capability in increasing trade dealings with almost 150,000 South Korean exporters.
It matches Visa's overall goal of improving B2B payments in Asia-Pacific. As GTPP acceptance rises, it has a chance to alter international trade payments, leading to a fully digital, card-based ecosystem that allows cross-border transactions faster, smarter, and more transparent, allowing Vietnamese businesses to succeed in the global market.
